The hex pencils have a nice grip that doesn't slip even when my hands get sweaty, and the carpenter ones are sturdier than I expected for sketching rough lines. For six bucks, this set covers both fine detail and heavy-duty marking without me needing to buy another pack.
I was a bit nervous about the mix of shapes, but the two carpenter pencils give you that flat, sturdy grip that's perfect for quick sketches, while the hex ones are great for longer writing sessions. The set covers all my bases and the wood sharpens down to a nice point without breaking.
The carpenter pencils feel solid in hand and that hex shape stops them from rolling off my desk, which I didn't expect to appreciate so much. First draft finally got the looseness I wanted.
